Welcome August 2026
August is a hot, dry month. Birds, bugs and bees should be everywhere. A week ago a young man came to my gate and offered to spray chemicals. I said I was against pesticides that they are not good for the environment. I believe they kill bees. We need the propagators.

We need legislation to have free zones in neighborhoods and farms if we want to save the bees. A friend in Vermont said the farmers are going to use more chemicals this year. I have seen photographs of farms planting rows of wildflowers in between the rows of produce, they do not use pesticides. This makes a lot more sense to me.
Last week a customer came into the garden nursery complaining that his young fruit trees were not producing fruit, yet in the past 2 or 3 years they did. It sounded like nothing was getting pollinated, no flowers, fruit or berries. Then he said two of his neighbors paid to spray chemicals this year. I suggested a petition in the neighborhood and asking them not to spray. It may take several years and planning to get them back. How sad to hear. He could offer them fruit instead.

The chemical companies need to put this product kills bees on the front page, not on page four in a teeny tiny font. Homeowners need better information from these companies before they spray. The agriculture industry needs to change.
