June 2026 Newsletter

Welcome June 2026

I have been working a lot this spring season, selling trees and plants and teaching people how to care for them. I was wearing a shirt that said “Save the Planet”. The more I deal with plants and nature the more I am in awe of how we are all connected. Plants are living beings as well as animal garden predators and bugs. They share our land and our yards.

I enjoyed watching a documentary on Costa Rica. For 50 years they have concentrated their efforts on co existing with nature, replenishing the rain forests and protecting the native wildlife in their unique home land. I wish all countries did more to improve our planet. We all share the same moon, lets also learn how to share our planet.

My garden is small yet, I have created a little haven for at least 11 different types of song birds, a toad, praying mantis, bees, rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks, hopefully some snakes, in my neighborhood house cats are allowed out to hunt (if you put a bell on your cat it will give the birds and perhaps snakes some warning).

This spring a rabbit family moved into my fenced small yard so I am monitoring the effects this will have. I made cages by putting screen cloth over planters and plants that they may eat like lettuce, rosemary and dahlias. I planted Jalapeno, Cayenne pepper and Impatience, that they have not nibbled, nor have I noticed any damage to my shrubs and perennials. My garden is about 30 yrs old and therefore well established. I do not use chemicals or pesticides. Create your own piece of paradise and in a small way help our planet. Enjoy the blue, red analogue of colors we get in June. Sandy
